As the area’s first Joint Commission Certified Primary Care Stroke Center in East Texas, the Stroke Center at St. Luke's Health-Memorial is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and recovery of East Texans suffering from stroke.
A new intensive care unit that includes 24 rooms – doubling the number of ICU beds previously available at the hospital – is conveniently located near the surgery suites, while the 26-bed Progressive Care Unit is housed on the fourth floor. Both units feature unique mini nurses’ stations that are positioned between every two patient rooms. This gives nurses the ability to constantly monitor patients.
Staffing includes four personnel per room consisting of registered nurses, radiological technologists and cardiovascular invasive specialists. Staff members also are cross trained in different areas to provide a continuity of care. Their roles include charting, driving, scrubbing and circulating the cases all under the direction of the physician. Additional staff members are added depending on difficulty of case or acuity of patient. All staff is required to maintain appropriate licensure or certifications.
