Professional Mentor Program

The Professional Mentor program at St. Luke’s Health–Sugar Land Hospital offers college undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the health care industry by shadowing a hospital administrator, clinician/practitioner, or health care leader. This is a competitive program that is open to local, highly motivated students who are in good standing at their college/university and interested in pursuing a career in health care.

Professional Mentor Program Requirements

  • Students age 18 – 22 who are enrolled full-time in a university are invited to apply. You must be in good standing in your academic program. 
  • Participants must have reliable transportation during the program. 
  • Scrubs are required for hospital rotations. The student is responsible for purchasing their own scrubs. 
  • Each student chosen for the Professional Mentor program will be assigned to a one- to eight-week rotation, shadowing a hospital administrator, clinician/practitioner, or health care leader.
  • Students must be fully vaccinated—No exceptions. Health Requirement information is in the link below. 
  • Students must also submit two letters of recommendation.

Letters of Recommendations

  • At least one letter of recommendation is to come from a current instructor in your program. 
  • You may submit two instructor letters, or one from an academic teacher and one from another contact such as an employer, coach, or sponsor of an accredited program at your school. 
  • Recommendations must include the author’s relationship to the applicant, their title, email, and cell number. 
  • Letters of reference need to speak to the student’s:
    • Intellectual curiosity
    • Work ethic
    • Maturity level
    • Reliability
    • People skills

 

Recommendations should be sent via email from the author (professor, mentor, or coach) as a signed PDF DIRECTLY to Nicole Hubbard.
