Amrita Kanwar, PharmD

HSPAL PGY1

Hometown: McAllen, Texas

Education:

Pharmacy School: University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy

Undergraduate: University of Texas at Austin

Current Research: Evaluation of hypoglycemia incidence and management in non-critical care hospitalized patients

About Me: Amrita received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin

College of Pharmacy and is currently a PGY1 Health System Pharmacy Administration and

Leadership resident at BSLMC. Her professional interests include solid organ transplant, clinical operations, informatics, ambulatory care, leadership development, and academia. Upon completion of postgraduate training, Amrita’s career goals are to obtain a Director of Pharmacy role at an academic medical center leading to roles in system-level leadership in public health. In her free time, Amrita enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, spending time with friends and family, enjoying Houston’s diverse eateries, re-watching 2000s television shows, keeping her succulents alive, and learning about anything.

Why Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center: Amrita was interested in BSLMC because of the strength of the clinical program and ownership of the leaders in the pharmacy department. BSLMC is also part of a national health system, CommonSpirit Health. Amrita specifically sought to do her residency at an academic medical center and knew she would best grow at an institution with preceptor and teaching experiences, diverse clinical rotations in an acute care population, and warm reception of the PGY1 residency program director and current residents. The Houston Program drew Amrita in with the opportunities for foundational pharmacy-focused leadership education, networking opportunities, knowledge-sharing among the Texas Medical Center, and the support offered through the program. Amrita is excited to grow her leadership experience and skill at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
