20 Pound Stinger Wins Top Prize at 23nd Annual Dr. Bill Shelton’s Totally Awesome Fishing Adventure

87 teams tried to bring in the top stringer weight and top big bass recently at the 2016 Dr. Bill Shelton’s Totally Awesome Fishing Adventure.  While many fishermen took home cash and great prizes, the real winners are the patients benefitting from the more than $15,000 raised through participants and sponsorships.  The tournament was held at the Dr. Bill and Emily Shelton Pavilion at Cassels Boykin Park on Lake Sam Rayburn.  All proceeds from the tournament benefit those in need at the St. Luke’s Health Temple Cancer Center. 

The top 10 teams based on the total weight of the fish they brought in were First place to 10th place - left to right: Josh Sowell/John Paul Packard - 20.64 pounds; Don Tayler/Donald Randall - 20.18 pounds; Cory Rambo/Bobby Vice - 18.89; Clint West/Mark Wilkerson - 18.06; Cole Stewart/Nick Womack - 17.95; Tommy Howard/Lori Peck - 17.75; Casey Brown/Ray Brown - 17.72; David Bowley Jr./David Bowley - 17.24; Perry Hooks/Kenny Jones - 17.07;  and Johnny Ward /Alan Anderson - 16.57.

Top 3 big bass winners were, from left, Josh Sowell, 8.48 pounds; Russell Sparks, 8.23 pounds; and Casey Brown, 8.00 pounds.

Patients receiving treatment at the Temple Cancer Center are screened for eligibility through the Social Worker based on hospital charity guidelines.
