Houston, TX (May 9, 2016) – St. Luke’s Health–Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (Baylor St. Luke’s) has appointed William Brien, MD, as its Interim President, effective today. Dr. Brien also serves as Vice President of Medical Operations and Chief Clinical Officer at Baylor St. Luke’s.
Former Baylor St. Luke’s President Wayne Keathley completed his inaugural term earlier this year and agreed to stay in the role until an interim president was named. His last day was Friday, May 6.
“We appreciate Wayne’s significant contributions to the expansion and growth of Baylor St. Luke’s and our joint venture,” said Michael H. Covert, Chief Executive Officer, St. Luke’s Health. “As we look forward to the build out of the new McNair Campus, Baylor St. Luke’s is well positioned for continued growth and profitability.”
As Interim President, Dr. Brien will oversee the hospital’s operational performance and support the joint venture between St. Luke’s Health and Baylor College of Medicine.
“Baylor St. Luke’s will benefit from Dr. Brien’s experience during this transition,” said Dr. Paul Klotman, President, CEO and Executive Dean of Baylor College of Medicine. “His leadership will be key to the continued success of the joint venture and the support of the medical staff as we go through the process of naming a new president.”
Dr. Brien joined St. Luke’s last year from Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he served as Professor and Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Director of Orthopedic Surgery.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Dr. Brien earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the LAC/USC School of Medicine and his fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
A committee, comprised of members from both the St. Luke’s Health System Board and the Baylor Joint Venture Board, has been formed to conduct a national search for the next president of Baylor St. Luke’s.
