HOUSTON (March 17, 2021) – Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (Baylor St. Luke's) has been recognized as one of the World's Best Hospitals 2021. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.

Baylor St. Luke's was in the top 11 percent of all General Hospitals in the United States and ranked within the Global Top 200. Baylor St. Luke's was also awarded the Best Hospitals for Infection Prevention, a reflection of the hospital's exceptional CMS Infection Prevention measures.

"To be recognized among the world's best hospitals is an incredible honor and a direct reflection of our commitment to patient safety and patient satisfaction," said Doug Lawson, Ph.D., chief executive officer, St. Luke's Health, and senior vice President of operations, Texas Division, CommonSpirit Health. "Our health care providers remain committed to serving and meeting the needs of our communities when and where they need us most."

"We are honored to be recognized by peers and health care professionals around the world for our commitment to patient care," said Liz Youngblood, president, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. "We take pride in delivering quality care and maintaining the highest levels of patient safety and infection prevention standards to help our patients heal in a safe and comfortable environment, particularly during these challenging times."

"Congratulations to Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center for this honor," said Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO and executive dean of Baylor College of Medicine, the hospital's academic partner. "Our physicians and surgeons take great pride in the excellent care they provide at Baylor St. Luke's."

Newsweek, in collaboration with global market research and consumer data company Statista, formed an expert panel of medical professionals and medical journalists to assess a total of 2,000 hospitals from 25 countries. To make its assessments, the panel followed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Three data sources were used for the evaluation:

  • Hospital recommendations from peers: an international online survey that included more than 74,000 doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals
  • Patient experience: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals
  • Medical KPIs: patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment

The World's Best Hospitals ranking is intended to be a resource to help patients make a more informed and data driven decision when choosing the right hospital for their medical needs, as well as to provide a composite benchmark for hospitals which is indicative of their relative performance when compared to their national and international peers.
