St. Luke’s Health (St. Luke’s) has named Jenny Barnett-Sarpalius, as its Chief Financial Officer for the CHI Texas Division, effective immediately. She previously served as Interim Division Chief Financial Officer. With nearly 30 years of finance, accounting, and leadership expertise, Barnett-Sarpalius’s healthcare experience spans throughout Houston and across the country, working for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, CHRISTUS Health, and Catholic Health East. More recently, she served as the Executive Vice President and CFO for CHE Trinity Health—the nation’s second largest nonprofit Catholic health care system.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have found such an experienced, strategic, and operationally strong financial executive with deep Houston roots,” said Michael H. Covert, Chief Executive Officer, St. Luke’s Health. “Jenny’s demonstrated track record as a successful CFO will be invaluable as we continue to grow and integrate others into the Texas Division during this significant change in the healthcare industry.”

As the Division CFO, Barnett-Sarpalius will represent Texas on the CHI National Enterprise Finance Operations Leadership Council, which is charged with developing the overall financial strategy for CHI. She will lead the division’s financial operation, serve as a strategic partner to the division’s leaders to develop and implement an effective long-term financial model, and establish a financial operational infrastructure to support the organization.

“I’m excited to return to Houston and join St. Luke’s Health,” said Barnett-Sarpalius. “Having spent 17 years in Houston, I’ve had the opportunity to experience first-hand the positive impact we have on the health of people in the communities we serve. I’m honored to join a health system that has established trusted brands—Catholic Health Initiatives, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Texas Heart® Institute—that consumers and community rely on every day.”

As interim CFO of the Division for the past 90 days, Barnett-Sarpalius has been instrumental in leading the development of a short-term and long-term financial plan to support St. Luke’s new divisional strategic plan. Barnett-Sarpalius has worked in partnership with other St. Luke’s division leaders, to develop a cost reduction plan to refocus the Division’s strategies for program and revenue growth.

A certified public accountant, Barnett-Sarpalius earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Louisiana State University. In 2012, Philadelphia Business Journal named her CFO of the Year for exemplary leadership at Catholic Health East.
