Memorial Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer

Memorial Health System of East Texas welcomes  Peggy (Margaret) Mortensen R.N. FACHE as the new Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing for Memorial Medical Center—Lufkin.  Mrs. Mortensen joins Memorial after a national search to find a nurse healthcare executive with a broad range of experience and significant accomplishments in leading healthcare organizations.

With more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, Mrs. Mortensen comes to Lufkin from the position of Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland.  Previously, Mrs. Mortensen held administrative positions at St. Vincent’s HealthCare in Jacksonville, Florida; Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the University of Virginia Medical Center. 

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, her MS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Mrs. Mortensen is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been honored with the ACHE Service Award and the North and West Florida Regent’s Award for Senior Executive.

Mrs. Mortensen and her husband Phil reside in the Lufkin area.
