Through Power of Pink!, we have educated thousands of women about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, early detection, and treatment options.

In fact, Power of Pink! is the largest such event in the region and has been voted again this year as the Best Community Event by The Lufkin News readers. While we will not be able to come together in person this year for a luncheon, breast cancer awareness is still very much a part of our Healthy Communities Initiative.

Power of Pink! began 28 years ago when a small group of ladies gathered to learn more about breast cancer following the passing of their friend, Mrs. Jan Moore.

We invite you to stay involved with this outreach and #KeepTheFlameBurning! The fight against breast cancer has not stopped and neither have we. More than 200 distinct patients receive radiation treatment at the Temple Cancer Center every year. Dozens of those patients require financial help from the Indigent Care Fund.

Dr. Sid Roberts, board-certified radiation oncologist and medical director of the Temple Cancer Center, stresses, “Even the best treatment cannot work if a patient does not have the transportation to get to it.”

For that reason, much of the money donated to the Indigent Care Fund goes toward focusing on addressing unmet transportation needs of cancer patients in particularly vulnerable populations, like East Texas, experiencing an unequal burden of cancer.

Contributions to the Indigent Care Fund may be mailed to:

If you know of someone in need, please contact the Temple Cancer Center at 936-639-7468.

We encourage you to be part of this year's #PowerOfPink! #KeepTheFlameBurning Facebook Awareness Campaign by visiting Lufkin Power of Pink and sharing the daily breast cancer facts to help spread the message that cancer has not stopped and neither have we.

We hope to return to our traditional annual Power of Pink! Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon in October 2021. Until then, keep the flame burning! Again, thank you for your support and prayers.
