Our Classes & Resources

In order to maintain the health of our delivering families as well as our visitors, we are temporarily postponing all classes and support groups offered at our Family Birthing Center. If you have already registered for one, a member of our team will reach out shortly with further details.

The birth of your baby is one of the most exciting events in your life. It is a moment you will cherish and remember always. Whether this is your first or fifth, at CHI St Luke’s Health–Sugar Land Hospital, we offer a variety of classes to help prepare you for childbirth and help you feel more comfortable taking care of yourself and your new baby.

Prepared Childbirth Class

This class will help you prepare for your labor and delivery here at CHI St. Luke's Health–Sugar Land Hospital. You will learn about comfort measures, relaxation and breathing techniques, anesthesia options to manage the discomforts of labor, and the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, labor, and birth all in one day. Information on Cesarean birth and hospital procedures will also be presented. These classes occur on one chosen Saturday each month. We encourage a support person to attend with the expectant mom.

Cost: $65.00 per couple. When you register, only ONE person’s information is needed. Please pay in advance at the Business Office before the start of the class.
When to attend: Recommended about 10 - 14 weeks before your due date.
Length of class: 9 am – 5 pm, with a one hour lunch break.

Breastfeeding Class

This class will help you prepare for successful breastfeeding here at CHI St. Luke's Health–Sugar Land Hospital. You will learn about:

  • how breastfeeding works
  • latch and positioning
  • when to feed your baby
  • how to know your baby is getting enough milk
  • breast care and pumping
  • general breastfeeding management

These classes occur on one chosen Tuesday evening each month. We encourage a support person to attend with the expectant mom.

Cost: $30.00 per couple. When you register, only ONE person’s information is needed. Please pay in advance at the Business Office before the start of the class.
When to attend: Recommended about 10 - 14 weeks before your due date.
Length of class: 7 pm – 9 pm.

Breastfeeding Support Groups

Breastfeed with confidence after taking this class! You will learn how your body makes milk for your baby, how to get breastfeeding off to the best start, how to latch and position your baby, how to know your baby is feeding well, what to expect the first few days of life, how to manage common challenges, and how to access breastfeeding help after you leave the hospital. We encourage a support person to attend with the expectant mom.

Led by a board certified lactation consultant, this group provides an opportunity for breastfeeding mothers and their babies (up to a year of age) to meet and support each other. Please fill out and submit the registration information to let the lactation consultant know you will be attending.

Cost: This class is free to attend.
When: 3rd Wednesday of every month from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Breastfeeding Free Virtual Classes

This class is your first step to learning the basics about breastfeeding and what to expect in the first few weeks. You will learn about the benefits of breastfeeding as well as multiple techniques to help you succeed. We encourage partners or a family member to attend with the expectant mom.

Pandemic Postpartum Support Group-Virtual

The birth of a baby is already challenging, but having a baby during a pandemic can create added stress and uncertainty, making it hard to prepare for one of the most exciting events in your life. "Join" us as a group zoom to discuss about the challenges, stresses and experiences we have learned.
