Virility & Fertility

Posted in: Blogs , English

Infertility is suspected when a couple can’t achieve a pregnancy within one year of trying. A third of all cases where couples are unable to conceive are due to complications in the male. There are many causes of male infertility, but there are steps men can take to protect their fertility.

Protecting Your Fertility

There are ways men can help keep their reproductive systems healthy.

  • Manage your weight. Obesity has been linked to infertility.

  • Reduce your stress. Stress can reduce the concentration of sperm.

  • Quit smoking. Smoking can decrease sperm size.

  • Limit your alcohol consumption. Drinking too much alcohol can affect your semen.

  • Manage your medical conditions. Certain medical conditions can affect fertility, including diabetes and hypertension.

Sexual Health Issues

Having erectile dysfunction (ED), or impotence, means you are unable get an erection, either the size or hardness of your erections is inadequate, or they just don’t last as long as they should. ED is most commonly caused by physical problems, usually related to lacking blood supply.

ED can be a result of the following.

  • Prostate conditions

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • Heart disease

  • High cholesterol

  • Nervous system disorders

  • Mental conditions

  • Alcohol use

  • Kidney disease

What Are The Odds?

Studies have shown that infertility could be related to testicular cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. According to research findings, men struggling with infertility had a 48 percent increase in their risk of heart disease – perhaps due to the decreased testosterone levels – and a 30 percent increase in their risk of diabetes. Low sperm counts have been linked to a multiplied risk of testicular cancer, the most common cancer among young men.
