Neuroscience Telestroke Network

The Neuroscience Telestroke Network is committed to increasing the survival rate of stroke patients. Part of this commitment involves coaching doctors in acute stroke care at hospitals and clinics in remote, underserved locations in southeast Texas.

Using two-way video conferencing technology, world-renowned neurointensivists from Baylor St. Luke’s connect with doctors in other locations to provide consultation and expertise in determining the best plan of care for stroke patients. Our DNV-Certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers at Baylor St. Luke’s and St. Luke’s Health–The Woodlands Hospital, partner with community facilities to emergently intervene to stop the progression of stroke and minimize or eliminate permanent impairment.

As a result, our Telestroke Network allows patients to receive advanced care treatments within their own community. In some instances, a consultation may result in a patient’s transfer to one of our Comprehensive Stroke Centers for neuro-radiological or neuro-surgical intervention.

We recognize that effective stroke treatment requires timely intervention and specially trained personnel. We couple excellent clinical treatment with efficient operational processes resulting in cost-effective and evidence-based protocols to maximize clinical outcomes and improve overall patient care.

Our Telestroke Network leadership team and partners meet to review program performance, which includes patient outcomes and network utilization for ongoing process improvement.

In addition, we are committed to educating and promoting stroke awareness to the community. We desire to expand the access of Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) to underserved areas.
